Autism assessment
How do we test for autism?
If you suspect that you or your child is showing signs of autism, you may want to arrange testing.
At NorthPsych, we use the internationally recognised ADOS-2 test to diagnose classic autistic disorder or related autism spectrum disorders.
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2) is the most reliable diagnostic tool currently and internationally recognised by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experts.
This tool is used to accurately assess and diagnose anyone suspected of having autism spectrum disorders or other pervasive developmental disorders across age, developmental level and language skills.
What does the ADOS assess?
Reciprocal social interactions
Communication
and social skills
Play and imaginative use of materials
Restricted and repetitive behaviour
Why get tested for autism?
By observing and coding the behaviours that the test elicits, we can obtain information that informs diagnosis, treatment planning, and educational placement.
A formal diagnosis of autism provides eligibility for government funding and special programs that assist people with ASD and their caregivers.
ADOS is a standardised diagnostic test for ASD published by Western Psychological Services (WPS) in 2000 and now available in 15 different languages.
